The continued success of Mama is largely due to you, our MAMA members. We need your help. All MAMA members are asked to volunteer their time and talents to keep our wonderful social schedule happening. Please consider volunteering for one of our events, joining a committee or leading a playgroup.
No qualifications are needed- just a desire to help out. Current opportunities include:
NEEDED: “Playgroup Organisers”
MAMA is looking for new Playgroup Organisers for Paget and Warwick. It is a great way to meet new Moms, so why not give it a try!
- If you can help please speak to Gail at Paget or email Kathy at

Responsibilities: Each playgroup needs one main organiser and contact person, but we would stress that this person is not expected to take the task on alone and this rarely happens. The main tasks for this person are:
- To be the contact person for MAMA and the Playgroup Co-ordinator
- To do the monthly financial returns
- To coordinate a rota for opening and closing
- To make announcements and give updates at circle/singing time
- Provide new attendees with information on MAMA and direct them to the website
- Ideally, we have a rota of helpers at each venue who can take it in turns to open and set up or close and put away. That way, if time is a concern, one person does not necessarily need to be there the whole time.

The Meet-A-Mum Association originated in the United Kingdom in 1982 as a support and resource group to assist new mothers. The Bermuda chapter of the Meet-A-Mum Association (“MAMA”) was formed in 1986. Since then, MAMA has become a must for mothers and nannies and in particular for those mums or nannies who are either new to motherhood or are new to Bermuda. MAMA is a valuable resource for information on raising young children in Bermuda and provides new mothers/nannies with a social network for support.
From the start, MAMA provides its members with helpful information. Each new member receives a New Member’s Guide, which covers numerous aspects of life in Bermuda with small children. The guide discusses various issues such as: healthcare (both for mothers and children); schools (nursery, pre-school and primary levels); babysitting; fun activities for both young children and mothers; MAMA weekly playgroups; playgrounds; parks; beaches; pets; and other useful information.
MAMA continues to keep its members updated with a monthly newsletter called The Stroller. The Stroller tells mums about: MAMA social events for both mums and tots; MAMA weekly playgroups; discounts available to MAMA members; and includes a “Marketplace” where mums can buy or sell children’s toys, furniture and other items. It also contains articles on raising children, crafts, recipes and ideas to help make the day-to-day challenges of parenting a little easier. Check out a recent edition of The Stroller here.
Socially, MAMA is very active. Aside from its playgroups (there is one every weekday in various parishes), each month MAMA holds various events. Some events are for children, such as treasure hunts, magic shows, craft clinics or fun days. Some events are for mums, such as ladies’ nights out. Some events are just for dads, such as daddy’s day or dad’s night out. Other events are devised to give parents a break from the routine, a relaxing evening cruise or romantic dinner for two. There is something for everyone!
MAMA is registered with the Bermuda Charity Commission as charity #431.
